Yesenia “Yesi” Olmedo brings deep education and a diverse perspective to her role as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Inspired Psychiatric Care. In addition to her training in psychiatry, she is also a Family Nurse Practitioner and obtained her Doctor of Nursing from Missouri State University in 2022. When she started her career as a nurse in 2013, she served in hospitals on burn units, float pools and telemetry/critical step-down.
Bilingual in Spanish and English, Yesi grew up in California and visited her grandparents in Mexico each summer. She knew a family friend in Mexico who had suffered from a stroke because of uncontrolled high blood pressure.
“I was shocked to watch her struggle,” Yesi explained. “They lived in a community without paved roads, and her husband had a difficult time maneuvering her wheelchair. I saw first-hand how the lack of preventive care and education could harm someone. It inspired me to become a nurse practitioner and help my clients become the healthiest they could be.”
Yesi’s inspiration led not only to her extensive educational credentials, but also to working in community health with clients of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and complexity of problems.
“I enjoy treating the health of each person holistically,” Yesi said. “I consider the physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of everyone. Helping clients understand the disease process and feel empowered to take care of their health is the most gratifying aspect of my work.”
